Digital Inclusion - Brainstorming Results

The Social Sector and Digital Inclusion working group has begun their brainstorming process. The following represents the outcome of that process to date.

Distribution (Connectivity). Questions to Consider:
  • How do we identify who currently who does/doesn’t have Internet?
  • What might be done to close the inclusivity gap?
  • What are the core inclusivity gap themes?

Usage. Questions to Consider:
  • What are all of the ways the community might use and take advantage of this new technology?
  • While community members “pull” content, might we consider “push” strategies?
  • How might our community members use this technology to benefit the community (texting in problems or ideas, opinion surveys, etc…)
Education/Content. Questions to Consider:
  • How might we educate the community about resource value?
  • How might we educate the community about how to make best use for community/civic engagement & development, business engagement & development and personal engagement & development
  • In what ways can we provide education and training directly to our community?
  • What types of education/content do we support?
Devices. Questions to Consider:
  • How can we maximize usage with consideration to the devices that will be used (home computer vs. smart-phone or tablet)?
  • Might additional infrastructure such as “hot spots” throughout Provo be an option?
  • How do we envision “how” our community will interface with the Internet from a hardware perspective?
Tools & Apps. Questions to Consider:
  • What kinds of tools and applications would help our community make the most of this technology?
Overarching Considerations. Questions to Consider:
  • How will all of the themes above help build community relationships?
  • How do we demonstrate value through each theme?
  • What will be our change management strategy for all themes?

  1. Start asking around for your neighbors, At them moment only 4 of the 8 apartments I live in have internet access. I am helping push the free internet connection for everyone.
